For the first time in 2019, our Men’s Premier side will play on one of our home fields with this weekends Football South Premier League game against new comers Wanaka scheduled for the Caledonian.
It is a difficult to know what to expect from our visitors who despite being new to Premier level football have picked up some good points already and sit only a point behind us on the table. Predictions at the start of the season were that they would struggle at this level but they’ve shown they are more than competitive and are sitting above five of the seven Dunedin sides.
Our side will relish the chance to both play at home after hosting our first two matches at the South Dunedin venue of Tahuna Park, as well as on a pitch appropriate for Premier level after last week’s fixture on the narrow confines of Forrester Park. Not quite back to to full strength yet with Oban Hawkins still recovering from our Round Two clash with Green Island but still with all of that endeavour and quality that we’ve shown already this season.
Away from North Dunedin, Bayfield Park will play host to both our Men’s Seconds and Thirds who both take on Mosgiel and for the Seconds its a chance to figure out what when wrong first up last weekend and kick start their season. The Thirds got in to the swing of things in predictable fashion first up and face a Mosgiel side who shipped five at the weekend so our free flowing attacking threat will be something for them to watch for.
A bit of an interesting fixture in Division Three as the Fifths clash with nemesis Roslyn Wakari 1888. These games have been brutal at times over the last few years so hopefully that trend does not continue and we see some good football that both sides are capable of. Youth won over experience last year as our boys easily won this clash but 1888 are always up for the fight.
Our Division Four sides will get a chance to see each other in action as they clash side by side at Forrester Park in early games. The Sevenths are one of the form sides in the Division are the first week notching ten goals with the Sixths coming off a draw looking to grab that first win of the season. Both have tough games with the Sevenths taking on another free scoring side from last weekend in Dunedin Tech and the Sixths facing the reliable Green Island Tippers.
None of the women’s teams in action this weekend with a bye and a couple of matches deferred to later in the season.
Off the pitch, our first after match function will be held at the Caledonian at the conclusion of the Men’s Premier League game. There will be food and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available to purchase including product from our new supporter Emersons Brewery.
