Clash of styles at Tahuna

Our new look Men’s Premier side continue their journey with another home game at Tahuna Park against fellow unbeaten side Green Island AFC at 2:45pm.

With hugely contrasting styles of play, this match is shaping up as the potential match of the round where our calculated possession style will clash with the cut and thrust power game of Green Island.

After a pleasing performance last weekend in front of a large University backing , another quality effort with plenty of industry from midfield schemers Oban Hawkins and Ben O’Farrell and solid foundation by the well rounded defensive combo of Tom Sule and Tim O’Farrell could see us top of the table come 4:30pm on Saturday.

Our opposition Green Island had an early wobble but ended up with a fairly comfortable win over Northern AFC last week and with high goals for their side will be a significant challenge for our boys. There will also be reunions for former OUAFC players Chris Kessell and Liam Carrington now based out in the suburbs and our new signing Stewart Catto who has formerly the custodian for the Green Island side.

As fitness nears the desired levels for style of play we which to use, Head Coach Darren Hart has been able to move the focus of training towards the structural side of our game, as we face bigger challenges in the league the importance of this transition cannot be overstated.

A full squad to call on again this week with the starting XI expected to stay the same with the addition of first-year scholar Albie Murray to the bench. The only other movement this week is the departure of reserve Goal Keeper Daniel Robinson who with his path towards a premier starting role blocked by Stewart Catto, leaves with our best wishes to join Dunedin Technical AFC.

Our squad this week is: Stewart Catto, Arnon Tapp, Jack Rathbone Tom Sule, Tim O’Farrell, Connor Spear, Greg Nimmo, Oban Hawkins, Ben O’Farrell, Joseph Araya, Tom Durkin, Albie Murray, Harry Gaskin, Ben Stanley, Dom Scahill and Allan McBride.

As our other sides await the start of their season on April 6, there’s a few more pre-season clashes this weekend with our Women’s Premier and Seconds teams opposing each other at Logan Park at midday with our Men’s and Fourths and Fifths featuring at Forrester Park. The newly minted thirds led by Jack Campfens take on Northern Thirds also at Forrester Park.
